Westfield Bondi – The Reconfiguration of Existing Asset
As part of our on-going works at Westfield Bondi Junction, Scentre Group Design & Construction commissioned MPN to provide structural engineering services to accommodate new tenant Virgin Active, as well as the reconfiguration and upgrade of other areas within this iconic shopping centre. This has included:
Downsizing of the Myer tenancy
- Escalator removals
- Slab void infills
Latent condition remediation
- Damaged steel beam connection rectifications
- Exposed reinforcement repairs
New works to accommodate Virgin Active
- Slab, lift core & facade penetrations for services upgrades
- Steelwork stairs
- Beam strengthening for existing steel post removals
- Slab strengthening to support new pool & spa
Virgin Active to Open at Westfield Bondi Junction
Scheduled to open midway through 2025, Virgin Active are in the process of developing a new 2,500 Sqm luxury ‘Social Wellness Club’ at Westfield Bondi Junction.
The Club will replace the David Jones food hall on level 1, and will be a luxury ‘all day’ concept that in their own words will ‘blend physical activity, fitness, wellness, nourishment and work/social interaction’.
The club will include:
- State-of-the-art gym
- Infrared and traditional saunas
- Pool and spa
- Health food cafe
- Co-working spaces and business lounge
- Specialist allied health services
- Large/luxury changerooms

Long Term Planning
The current works are part of a longer-term plan by Westfield to update the Centre, which will include the redesign and repurpose of the leisure and food floors, relocation of exisiting tenancies and reconfiguration for new anchor tenants.
