$160 MILLION REDEVELOPMENT OF AN EXISTING SHOPPING CENTRE
MPN was an integral part of the project team for the $160 million redevelopment of the Westfield Kotara shopping centre. A focal point/hub for the local community, Westfield Kotara is located in the Hunter area, 6 kilometres from the Newcastle CBD (NSW).
The project comprised 20,000 square metres of additions, which included a new Eastern mall, 30 new shops, 2 international mini-majors, a youth/urban precinct, a new format Kmart and additional car parking and associated infrastructure.
KEY PROJECT CHALLENGES
The major modifications and additions to a highly valued centre created the need for a detailed demolition and construction sequence, and importantly a methodology to keep the centre trading as usual. MPN provided structural engineering services from planning through to construction for these complex additions including detailed demolition and staging strategies.
